Alaskan reading of my full-length play When The Lights Go Out In Georgia

I spent last week at the transformative Valdez Theatre Conference. I confess that the travel alone was intimidating enough for (famously very aviation-phobic) me, but my full-length tragicomedy When The Lights Go Out In Georgia was offered a spot and I had to jump on it. I wrote the first draft of that play over a decade ago, and had gotten a lot of positive response but it had never QUITE crossed the finish line for anything beyond internal/table-workshopping. This meant I could finally sit with an audience hearing it read, with the support of a team of artists offering feedback. Miracle of miracles, it turns out there's something there!
I'm so grateful for what was a truly magical week at a seemingly mythical location -- a little mini-paradise of thoughful and generous and brilliant theatre artists for a busy week of new play development in an Alaskan fishing village with the most jaw-dropping scenery this city girl could ever fathom (no, I didn't see a bear or moose, but I saw an otter and several sea lions and bald eagles!). And I certainly hope that's not the last time I get to work with that marvelous team of actors and director! What an honor and a gift.
